ATLANTA — Camille Porter capped her high school career with a day to remember on Saturday

The Jefferson High senior brought home a state title for the Lady Dragons in the girls 100-meter freestyle at the 2016 Georgia High School Association swimming championships at the McCauley Aquatic Center at Georgia Tech, nipping Sequoyah’s Kristin Friedrichs at the line in a winning time of 51.99. Friedrichs finished in 52.17 for second.

Porter also took seventh in the girls 50 freestyle.

Her performances helped Jefferson to an 11th place team finish, the highest for any northeast Georgia team.

Yet Porter was far from alone on Saturday, as a number of northeast Georgia-based competitors earned points for their programs at the state championships.

North Hall's Rosemary Schofield took sixth in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle. Those performances helped the Lady Trojans finish 13th overall.

Chestatee’s Luke Hene also swam well, taking fourth in both the 200 indicidual medley and 100 backstroke.

In the boys 100 butterfly, Kevin Reale of Riverside Military took eighth. In the boys 100 freestyle, Lakeview Academy’s Michael Wacho finished ninth -- Wacho also finished 10th in the 200 freestyle.

In the 200 Medley Relay, the Gainesville team of Spencer Sumner, Brian Monaghan, Tanner Doan, and Max Sumner took ninth. Monaghan also took 10th in the 100 breaststroke. The Red Elephants proved the highest finishing northeast Georgia boys team, taking 17th place.

Chestatee's Lindsey Grater also swam impressively, taking seventh in the 500 freestyle and and eighth in the 200 freestyle

In the boys 200 free relay, the Riverside Military Academy team of Kevin Reale, Neil Bennett-Blake, James Brubeck, and Alfred DeCambre finished seventh.

In the girls 200 free relay, the Jefferson team of Falon Bell, Ryan Childress, McKenzie Klinck, and Porter took fifth. North Hall's team also finished eighth.
