MONROE COUNTY, Ga. (AP) — Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer says one of his deputies died when his SUV ran off the road and hit several trees, throwing him out of the vehicle.

Authorities tell WMAZ-TV that the 2003 Trailblazer crashed in Monroe County soon after 56-year-old Deputy Thomas Palmer of Forsyth left work Wednesday evening.

He died at the Monroe County Hospital.

Palmer was a nine-year veteran of the department and worked in the Court Services Division.

McBrayer asked for prayers for Palmer's family.
