The Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials recently graduated 26 new leaders from the GALEO Institute for Leadership, which was held in Atlanta. The graduates included residents of Hall, Gwinnett and Forsyth counties.
This is the 16th group of graduates resulting from GALEO's leadership development efforts - and the largest in the program's history. The total number of GALEO Institute for Leadership alumni now stands at 535 people from across the state.
GALEO Excecutive Director Jerry Gonzalez, in speaking to the group, addressed the challenges and success of the civil rights leader, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. He reminded them of the work ahead of them in the coming year and how their leadership development can help with today's pressing issues.
According to Gonzalez, the graduates dedicated more than 89 hours during 2016 to complete eight modules, additional presentations and a group project.
This leadership program was made possible in part by the Sapelo Foundation, University of Georgia-Fanning Institute, Georgia Power, State Farm Insurance Company, GALEO and individual donors.
