The execution date has been set for a Lumpkin County man convicted of murder in 2001.
Steven Frederick Spears will be put to death Nov. 16, according to a news release from Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens.
Spears was convicted of strangling to death Sherri Holland, a woman he had dated previously, at her home in August 2001.
After committing the crime, Spears lived in the woods for 10 days, taking shelter in a deer stand, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Spears was eventually captured walking along Highway 52, and told authorities at the time that he was planning to go back to Lumpkin County and turn himself in.
He was taken to the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, where he gave a "detailed confession."
Spears was convicted of murder and sentenced to death March 22, 2007, a decision that was unanimously affirmed by the Supreme Court in February 2015.
