Two occupants of a garbage collection truck were injured when that vehicle overturned Monday outside Clarkesville.

The 2003 International garbage truck, owned by Waste Away Express Inc. of Cornelia and driven by Ricky John McKay of Clayton was traveling south on Cool Springs Road and was attempting a right turn onto Cool Springs Connector at the time of the crash, said Sr. Trooper Jason Stephens of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 of Toccoa.

"Driver 1 lost control and ran off the south shoulder of Cool Springs Connector," Stephens said. "Vehicle 1 traveled down an embankment and overturned on its driver's side. The passenger was ejected off of Vehicle 1."

That passenger was Steven Edward Davidson of Alto, Stephens said. Davidson was injured and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

McKay, who was trapped in the overturned truck, was injured and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center, Stephens said.

The Georgia Department of Public Safety Motor Carrier Compliance Division was called to the scene to perform an inspection on the truck, Stephens said.

Emergency personnel confer at the site of the garbage truck wreck that injured two men Monday afternoon near Clarkesville.
