MT. AIRY -- An Alto man lost his life in a single-vehicle crash north of Mt. Airy early Sunday.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire identified the man as Marcos Jeronimo-Huaroco, 19, of Alto.

Jeronimo-Huaroco's 2007 Mercury Milan was traveling south on Dicks Hill Parkway while attempting to negotiate a left curve, said Trooper 1st Class Travis Sanders of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.

"Vehicle 1 ran off the west shoulder of the roadway," Sgt. 1st Class Chad Johnson said. "Driver 1 over-corrected his steering and crossed over both travel lanes of Dicks Hill Parkway."

The vehicle then ran off the east shoulder of the roadway.

The front of the vehicle struck a tree, Johnson said.

Jeronimo-Huaroco "was found unrestrained in the front seat of the vehicle," Johnson said. "Driver 1 suffered mass trauma to his head, which resulted in a fatal injury."

He was pronounced dead at the scene, McEntire said.

Blue paint marks on the pavement show the path taken by Marcos Jeronimo-Huaroco's Mercury Milan as it went out of control on Dicks Hill Parkway just south of Blair Road about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
