CLEVELAND - One person suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident Thursday morning on Ga. 115 east of Cleveland.

White County dispatchers received a call about the accident just before 10:00 a.m.

The female driver of an SUV was apparently traveling east on Ga. 115 and for an unknown reason crossed over the center line and ran off the left side of the road, striking a tree.

A sheriff’s deputy, who was on his way to work, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, according to  White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.

"Upon arrival of the sheriff's office, they reported a female victim trapped in the car with some smoke showing from the engine compartment," Murphy said. "The fire department arrived on scene and immediately began extricating the patient. The patient was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Trauma Center."

The driver was the only person in the vehicle.

Ga. 115 was shut down to traffic for almost an hour while fire and medical personnel worked to get the victim out.

Cleveland Fire Department personnel assisted White County Fire Department.
