Gainesville City School System's Ivey Watson Field has been named Sports Turf Managers Association 2015 High School Baseball Field of the Year, according to the system.

The award is given to members who manage baseball, football, soccer, softball, and other sporting grounds at the professional, collegiate, K-12, and parks and recreation level. Ivey Watson Field was selected based on sound management practices and maintenance of the field to the highest standards.

"The Field of the Year Award is a testament to the personal and professional contributions by a select group of sports turf industry leaders," Kim Heck, CEO of association said.

Winning fields will be featured in a 2016 issue of SportsTurf Magazine.

"It is an honor and speaks well of our district's support and staff's commitment to excellence," Adrian Niles, Director of Maintenance and Operations said of the honor.

"My staff understands the level of excellence that's expected and really has taken it to the next level. No matter the circumstance, we strive to provide the best possible playing surface for our student-athletes," school system Athletic Field Manager David Presnell said.

Built in 1986, Ivey Watson Field is located on the shores of Lake Lanier and is home to the Gainesville Red Elephants baseball team.
