Cornelia house fire claims life of one man

UPDATE: One person died in a pre-dawn house fire in Cornelua Tuesday morning.

 
Firefighters from Cornelia, Baldwin and Lee Arrendale State Prison were called to the home on Yonah Street just before 6 a.m. and remained there into the afternoon.
 
Habersham County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Franklin identified the victim Tuesday afternoon only as a Caucasian male, pending notification of family members.
 
The man's body has been sent to the State Crime Lab for an examination, Franklin said.
 
The victim was the nay occupant of the house at the time of the fire.
 
Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and called 9-1-1 about 5:50 a.m.
 
Cornelia Police Chief Chad Smith deferred questions about the fire to fire department officials, who have remained busy on the scene.
 
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating, with Cornelia detectives assisting, Smith said.
