Employee and husband allegedly burglarized Clarkesville business

CLARKESVILLE - A Mt. Airy couple was behind bars Friday, facing charges they stole cash from the gas station the wife worked at in Clarkesville.
 
The Habersham County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) responded to an alarm at the BP Food Mart at 310 Toccoa Highway early Thursday morning, according to HCSO Public Information Officer Lt. Floyd Canup.
 
Authorities said the suspects allegedly stole $325 from an unlocked safe at the store around 3:30 a.m.
 
The employee, Cleo Grant Bass, was arrested on the scene, according to Canup.  Her husband, Joseph Michael Bass, was arrested Thursday afternoon at a restaurant in Clarkesville.
 
Cleo Bass was charged with burglary and driving on a suspended license.  Joseph Michael Bass was charged with burglary, according to Canup.
 
Investigators recovered the $325.
