LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) A medical examiner says a man fatally shot himself during a confrontation with Gwinnet police.

The Gwinnett medical examiner ruled that 62-year-old Hien Trong Luong died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was not struck by police gunfire.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/1UmrnTq ) that two detectives were conducting interviews Tuesday night when Luong pulled up to a house.

One detective recognized Luong and ordered him to take his hands out of his pockets. Authorities said Luong refused, pulled a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at his own head. He refused to drop the weapon and pulled the trigger.

Officials said one detective fired a shot at Luong, which missed.
