TOCCOA - The Georgia State Patrol has released more details of a two-vehicle wreck involving a Habersham County school bus at 7:28 a.m. Friday.

Sgt. 1st Class M. Chad Johnson said that at the time of the collision a 2006 Freightliner Habersham County Schools bus driven by 40-year-old Kellie Danette Jackson of Mt. Airy was traveling north in the left turn lane of Georgia 105 (Business 441) at its intersection with the entrance/exit ramp to Georgia 365 northbound.

Jackson attempted to turn the bus left onto the entrance ramp of Georgia 365 North, but failed to yield to an oncoming Honda Pilot, Johnson said.

The Pilot SUV was driven by 62-year-old Wanda Jones of Clarkesville, which was traveling south in the right lane of Georgia 105 (Business 441) approaching the intersection of the entrance/exit ramp to Georgia 365 North, Johnson said.

"The bus traveled into the path of the Honda Pilot and the Honda impacted the bus," Johnson said, noting both vehicles suffered extensive damage.

"Witness statements and video footage from the onboard video system of the bus, revealed that there were no left turn arrows - yellow or green - activated on the traffic signal at the time Ms. Jackson attempted to make a left turn in the bus, thus giving the right-of-way to southbound traffic , the Honda Pilot," Johnson said.

There were no children on the bus at the time of the wreck, and the driver was the only occupant.

"The driver of the bus, Ms. Jackson, was not issued a citation, but was shown at fault in the crash," Johnson said.

Johnson said both drivers were taken by private vehicle to Habersham Medical Center in Demorest, where they were treated  and released.
