GAINESVILLE— A water main break caused a rush hour nightmare on Browns Bridge Road west of Gainesville Friday afternoon.
It occurred about 3:30 at Waldrip Road and, as a result, traffic was reduced to one lane until about 7:00 Friday night as Georgia Department of Transportation crews worked to repair damage to the roadway.
GDOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said the break caused damage "to the road and its support structure."
Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions until the both lanes were reopened.
Westbound traffic backup on Browns Bridge Road (Ga. 369) near McEver Road Friday afternoon about 5:45, more than two hours after the water main break occurred.
