ATHENS - A former Athens-Clarke County Police Officer was arrested for aggravated assault and violation of oath by a public officer, both felonies.

The charges against 46-year-old Jonathan Fraser stem from an indicident on June 13 of this year on West Broad Street. 19-year-old Michael Roquet was arrested in the incident.

On June 19, the police department contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and during the investigation the GBI determined that Fraser had committed aggravated assault and violated his oath.

The Athens man turned himself in to the Clarke County Jail when he learned about the warrants for his arrest.

Fraser had served the department for 17 years and was fired before the end of the criminal investigation.

A request for further detail from the GBI was not immediately returned.
