GPD: Back to school reminders for motorists

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police are out with some reminders for drivers as city schools prepare for the opening of another school year tomorrow. (Hall County schools open for students on Friday.)

Parents and others who drive on or around campuses and in neighborhoods near schools can and should plan an important role in enhancing safety by following safe driving practices, according to police spokesman Kevin Holbrook.
 
"It's important for everyone to realize that these children's safety, that's the responsibility for each and every one of us, whether that's your child or someone else's child."
 
He said drivers are often in a hurry and distracted which can lead to unsafe conditions for students and others in the area at arrival and dismissal times.
