GAINESVILLE - Hall County authorities are investigating the death of a woman found in Lake Lanier Sunday afternoon.
According to Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicole Bailes, the call of a female found unresponsive in the lake in the area of Lakewood Drive off of Woodlake Drive came in at 1:23 pm.
The victim, in her 60s, was located by family members, who removed her from the water.
Rescue efforts were performed on the woman until medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Bailes said the HCSO is still investigating how the victim wound up in the lake. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification.
