PEACHTREE CITY — Most of north and central Georgia was warmer-than-normal in June and most places were also drier-than-normal. That's according to the North and Central Georgia Climate Summary recently released by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City.
The data summarizes the month for Athens, Atlanta, Columbus, Macon, Cartersville, Gainesville, Rome and Peachtree City. Also, DeKalb Peachtree Airport and Fulton County Airport.
The warmest readings of the month were recorded in Athens and Macon - 100 degrees in each city. The warmest in Gainesville was 95 on June 22 and 24. Gainesville recorded a high of at least 90 on 12 days. The average for June is eight; the record is 18, set in 2011.
It was the 13th warmest June on record in Athens, with an average daily temperature of 80.14 degrees. Normal for the month is 77.5. For Gainesville, the average was 78, 2.4 degrees above normal.
The outlook for north Georgia for the rest of summer, according to NWS: below normal rainfall and "equal chances" for normal, above-normal and below-normal temperatures,
