Gainesville man accused of opening fire at GSP post faces judge this afternoon

GAINESVILLE — A man accused of opening fire with a deer rifle at the Georgia State Patrol post in Gainesville Monday morning has his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
 
Hall County authorities said 21-year-old Leighton Beaux Marchetta of Gainesville will have a closed-circuit session with the judge and will not be transported to the courthouse.
 
Marchetta was shot in the shoulder by a state trooper during the incident. He was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center and then taken to the Hall County Jail.
 
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.
