ROYSTON - Ty Cobb or the Georgia Peach has a posthumous legacy of having been a surly guy. A former Sports Illustrated editor has written a new book on Cobb that shatters some of that legend.
Julie Ridgeway, Director of the Ty Cobb Museum in Royston, says author Charles Leerhsen spend a couple of days doing research at the museum several years ago.
"He didn't read what other people had written since Ty Cobb died. Her dug into our archives and read every article from sports writers that were actually sitting in the stands and watching Ty Cobb play," Ridegway said.
Leerhsen's book corrects some of the information that has been published about Cobb.
"The majority of the negative publicity about Cobb came out after he died, written through a book written by Al Stump," Ridgeway said.
Leerhsen is scheduled to sign his book, TY COBB A Terrible Beauty, at the museum Saturday, May 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
