LAWRENCEVILLE - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the fatal shooting of a 72-year-old man by police in Lawrenceville.

GBI officials say Gwinnett County Police were responding to a suicide call Thursday morning and were told that 72-year-old Joseph Roy had barricaded himself inside a room at a home on Avalon Meadwos Court..

GBI officials say when officers approached the room, Roy opened the door, threatened them and charged at them with a knife.

GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang says the officers fired three shots and Roy was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No officers were injured.
