Golf: Red Elephants surge back to claim Invite crown over Marist

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville boys golf team staged a second-round comeback on Saturday to claim The Invite crown at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville.

The Red Elephants charged down Marist, finishing one shot in front of the War Eagles after Marist took a six-shot lead after the first day of play on Friday.

Gainesville carded a two-day total of 573, paced by Spencer Ralston, who also carded the low score of the tournament, shooting a six-under 66 on Saturday to finish with a two-day total of 134 (10-under).

Gainesville’s Nathan Williams also finished tied for second, carding a two-day total of 140 (69-71).

The Red Elephants will compete again in the Class AAAAA championship meet on May 18 at the Country Club of Columbus.
