GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man was apprehended in Gwinnett County Thursday, wanted for the attempted robbery of a restaurant in Gainesville.

Gainesville Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook identified the suspect as 54-year-old Thomas Pilotti.

Holbrook said investigators believe Pilotti attempted to rob the McDonalds restaurant at Jesse Jewell and Limestone parkways on April 10.

"During this case, it appears he (Pilotti) went to the drive through window and attempted to rob the store.  He was unable to obtain any cash and then left the scene," Holbrook said.

"He did not brandish a weapon, however it was reported that he did state he had a weapon," Holbrook added.

Police also believe Pilotti stole a tip jar from the Inman Perk coffee shop in downtown Gainesville on Monday.

Holbrook said the police worked with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on the case. He didn't immediately know the circumstances of Pilotti's apprehension in Gwinnett County.

He was being held in the Hall County Jail.
