LOGANVILLE -- The Flowery Branch girls made an impression at the Region 8-AAAAA track and field championships on Thursday, scoring three gold medals to move into second place.

The Lady Falcons finished with 91 points -- 11 behind winner Loganville -- thanks to big days in the race event finals held at Loganville High.

Cassie Ward won the 3,200 meters for Flowery Branch, finishing in 12:20.

Meanwhile, Summer Boone won the 100 hurdles 16.23, just in front of teammate Destiny Trouilliere, who was second (16.67). Heather Moore also won the 800 (2:27).

On the boys’ side, Flowery Branch took 1-2 in the 3,200, as Jake Shewbert finished first (9:46), ahead of Grant O’Callaghan (9:56).

The Branch boys finished fourth, with Gainesville behind in fifth. The Gainesville girls were eighth.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the state sectionals, which will be held at various sites next Saturday. Region 8-AAAAA qualifiers will be back at Loganville battling for a spot at the state finals.
