GAINESVILLE - Officials with the Gainesville City School system decided to implement a delayed release for students Monday afternoon following the issuance of a tornado warning.

A release from the office of Superintendent Dr. Wanda Creel said elementary students that had not already been delivered home were returned to the school to seek shelter.

"Once the warning was lifted and reduced to a watch at 3:10, our Transportation Department began the process of reloading the students to transport home," Dr. Creel's release said.

"Middle and High School students will be picked up and delivered home when the elementary school routes are completed.  Please expect your child to potentially be home 30 minutes later than normal due to the delayed Tagsdismissal in response to the Tornado Warning."
