ATLANTA (AP) The director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says the agency will need extra resources as more police departments are requesting state agents to investigate shootings involving officers.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan tells WSB-TV that the situation is going to require additional resources.

Keenan said that if needed, he plans to bring agents from other parts of Georgia to investigate officer-involved shootings in metro Atlanta, where several have occurred in recent months.

Keenan said DeKalb and Gwinnett county police are now using his agency to investigate serious officer-involved shootings.

Keenan said Georgia isn't alone in struggling to investigate such cases as local police increasingly request state agents to investigate. He said he's heard from his counterparts across the South, who are also dealing with the increased workload.
