Baseball: Hewett, Atha pitch North Hall past Johnson

GAINESVILLE -- Lincoln Hewett and Drew Atha combined to hold Johnson to just three hits in leading North Hall to a 5-2 victory Tuesday in Region 8-AAAA action at Jody Davis Field.

Hewett went three innings allowing two hits and one run while Atha struck out seven and allowed just one hit and one run in four innings.

The Trojans (12-7, 7-4 Region 8-AAAA) pounded out 11 hits, with Taber Mongero, Micah Strickland, Drew Coker, and Matthew Cox each getting two hits. Mongero, Hewett, Corbin Lewallen, and Fowler Brooks each had one RBI for North Hall, which snapped a two-game losing streak with the win.

Johnson (2-16, 0-9) has now lost 11 straight. But the Knights led 1-0 after the top of the third inning.

North Hall answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and then added three more in the fourth inning. The Trojans pushed their lead to 5-1 in the fifth and Johnson cut it the final score with a run in the top of the sixth.

The two teams will meet Wednesday at Johnson to complete their home-and-home series.
