CUMMING - A major gas leak on Old Atlanta Road at Sharon Road in Forsyth County forced officials to shut down the intersection earlier Thursday to repair the leak.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Robin Regan said a utility crew struck the gas line, causing the leak. The gas company was on scene, along with Sheriff's Deputies and fire officials, and repaired the line around 2:30 p.m.

The intersection of Sharon and Old Atlanta Roads was shut down for an hour.

Regan said officials were at the nearby middle school, South Forsyth Middle, and took the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the students.
