Three firefighters sustain minor burns in Nicholson house fire

NICHOLSON - Three Commerce firefighters were injured when assisting with the knock-down of a house fire in Nicholson early Monday morning, according to Jackson County authorities.<br /> <br /> Steve Nichols, the Director of Emergency Services for Jackson County said the three were part of a contingent of firefighters from the Nicholson, Commerce and Jackson County Correctional Institute Fire Departments called to the fire on Wardlaw Road at 7:35 a.m. Nichols said one firefighter was treated for burns, but the other two refused assistance from medical personnel.<br /> <br /> At this point, the cause of the fire is unknown, but Nichols said it appears to be accidental, and it looks as if the fire started in the laundry room of the home.<br /> <br /> The occupants of the house were in the process of moving in, so they were not home when the fire broke out.<br /> <br /> Nichols said the house is a total loss.<br />
