Girls basketball: Flowery Branch opens 8-AAAAA play with win over Clarke Central

ATHENS — The Flowery Branch girls opened their Region 8-AAAAA schedule with a 67-53 win over Clark Central Tuesday night on the road.

The Lady Falcons (4-0, 1-0 8-AAAAA) trailed early falling behind 13-11 after the first quarter. But they turned things up over the next two quarters.

Flowery Branch outscored the Lady Gladiators (5-1, 0-1) 37-22 over the second and third periods to take a 48-35 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Falcons never let Clarke Central, which came into the game undefeated, get a late rally going.

Taniah Worth led the Lady Falcons with 22 points. Julianne Sutton added 11 points and Caroline Wysocki 10 points for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch next will play host to Heritage, Conyers on Friday in Region 8-AAAAA action. Clarke Central will travel to Apalachee on Friday in another region contest.
