UNDATED — Just as Georgia motorists are about to load up the car for this week's Thanksgiving trip comes the news that the average gasoline price in the state has ticked below the $2 a gallon mark.

AAA reported the average price at $1.999, while GasBuddy.com reported its calculated price at $1.998.

According to AAA, this is the first time since January 28 the average price of gasoline has dropped below $2 a gallon in Georgia.

“Although gas prices in some cities outside of Metro Atlanta have averaged below $2.00 for the past few weeks, this is the first time since earlier this year, the state average has dipped below the $2.00 mark,” said AAA spokesman Garrett Townsend in a press statement. “Georgia travelers are in a good place right now. The money saved at the pump is timely, as they get on the road this week.”

Townsend said 70% of Georgia gas stations are now selling gasoline for under $2 a gallon.
