GAINESVILLE—The Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO) is moving forward with funding for a corridor study of Green Street in Gainesville.

The GHMPO is funding 80% of the $198,500 project, with the city chipping in the other 20%. The funding comes as an amendment made to the FY 2016 Unified Planning Work Program at Wednesday morning's GHMPO Technical Coordinating Committee meeting

"The city wants to examine what is underneath that street, because they city doesn't know," said Sam Baker, Senior Transportation Planner for the GHMPO.

The study is slated to finish by June 2016.

"(Gainesville) wants to analyze the consequences of the different recommendations that have been presented for Green Street," said Baker.

Those recommendations include developments and future traffic improvements.

"(The project) was brought up at the beginning of this year. Gainesville and (the GHMPO) have talked to a contracting firm ... so the city is in the process of hiring that contractor," said Baker.

Part of the funding, totaling $116,000, was rolled over from the GHMPO's FY 2015 budget.
