Volleyball: Lady Vikings claim second straight 7-AAA crown

RABBITTOWN — The East Hall volleyball team savored a second straight Area 7-AAA championship on Thursday after sweeping past Lumpkin County and West Hall in Rabbittown.

The Lady Vikings (34-13, 5-1 Area 7-AAA) took out Lumpkin 25-20, 25-17 and West Hall 25-21, 25-21.
 
Minette Maldonado had 15 points scored on serve with 8 aces, 25 kills and 13 digs to help pace East Hall, while Jessica Chmiel had 20 points scored on serve with 7 aces, 6 kills and 4 digs. Savannah Thellman also had 33 assists and 1 dig; Lorna Ayon had 1 assist and 8 digs; Summer Lindsey had 6 points scored on serve with 1 ace, 1 assist and 19 digs; Niyah Rucker had 10 kills and 1 block; Rachel McGee had 4 points scored on serve with 2 aces, 4 kills and 2 digs; and Holly Poole had 16 points scored on serve with 6 aces, 1 kill and 5 digs.
 
East Hall plays at home in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday against the No. 4 seed from Area 3. Start time TBD
