BETHLEHEM - A family of four has been displaced after a morning fire destroyed their Downing Drive home.

According to a release from Lt. Scott Dakin with the Barrow County Fire Department, responders found the back of home burning when they arrived at 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

Dakin said fighting the fire was difficult due to the freezing cold temperatures. "Throughout the scene the water from the hoses was turning to ice making it challenging on firefighters," said Lieutenant Dakin. "Crews worked hard and brought the fire under control in the temperatures as quickly as possible."

The 900-block home on Downing Drive and its contents were extensively damaged and the side of a neighbor's home was also damaged from the heat of the fire. The four people displaced are two adults and two children.

Dakin said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
