OAKWOOD - Authorities suspended the search for a missing swimmer on Lake Lanier Tuesday evening and planned to resume search efforts at daybreak.

The woman went missing Monday night in the Big Creek Park area on the south end of the Lake.

Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes said authorities from both the Hall County Sheriff's Office Dive Team and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources spent the day on the lake using sonar devices to look for the woman.

Bailes said someone called 911 around 8:20 p.m. Monday to report a woman had jumped from her boat into the lake and never resurfaced.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle earlier said divers were not sent into the water at the time of the incident because witnesses could not pinpoint an area of the lake where the reported victim was last seen. Cagle said the water in that part of the lake is approximately 80-90 feet deep.

Bailes said if sonar detects anything resembling the woman, divers will search the water.
