MACON, Ga. (AP) A middle Georgia sheriff says two inmates visiting a Macon funeral home tried to return to jail with drugs and other contraband that had been hidden inside their grandmother's casket.

WMAZ-TV reports Bibb County deputies found marijuana, tobacco, a lighter and a cellphone on inmates Henry Ison Rouse and Nekoase Antwan Vinson after they attended a visitation for their dead grandmother Thursday. They wore handcuffs and were escorted by guards.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said deputies suspect the inmates retrieved the contraband from the casket after relatives stashed it for them. Davis called the stunt "wicked" and said it "illustrates the audacity of this generation of inmates."

Both inmates were charged with marijuana possession and bringing contraband to jail. It was not immediately known if they had attorneys.
