White County school officials discuss guns on campus

CLEVELAND - The White County Board of Education talked about guns at school during its meeting Thursday night. <br /> <br /> Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson shared with the board the latest interpretation of the new gun law in the state. <br /> <br /> Wilson said no guns will be allowed in school buildings. <br /> <br /> "Any individual - even an individual that has a carry permit - is not allowed to bring that gun on a school campus inside the building," Wilson said. "That pickup and drop-off has been interpreted as being in the car, so if they wear their weapon they can have it in the car, but they are to leave it in the car before they come inside the school building."<br /> <br /> Wilson said the new law doesn't change anything for students. They are not allowed to have a gun even in their car on the campus. <br /> <br /> The board approved the school weapons policy and placed on the table, for review, a policy that would enable the board to allow teachers or administrators to have a weapon on a school campus should the board approve that.<br /> <br /> Wilson said system officials have no plans to allow school personnel to have a weapon on school grounds at this time, but this policy would allow that. <br />
