The Democratic candidate for Georgia's 9th District Congressional seat, Dr. David Vogel, has announced he will attempt to bicycle county-seat-to-county-seat through all 20 counties of the 9th District.

The 72-year-old Vogel estimates the length of the ride at 500 miles over terrain that includes the north Georgia mountains. He expects to leave from Clarke County on Tuesday and end the tour in Gilmer County on the Sept. 24. (See link below for tour schedule.)

Vogel says the purpose of the tour is to call attention to his website, votevogel.org.

He acknowledges that his volunteers have prevailed on him not to ride parts of Highway 76 between Clayton and Hiawassee for safety reasons, adding, "I'll skip what I take to be the dangerous parts and come back and walk them after the ride is over."

Vogel is running against Republican incumbent Doug Collins in the Nov. 4 General Election.
