Rabun wreck critically injures motorcyclist

LAKEMONT - A motorcyclist was critically injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Rabun County Saturday afternoon.<br /> <br /> The unnamed male was traveling north on the right lane of U.S. Highway 441 approaching the intersection with East Wolf Creek Road in Lakemont, said Trooper 1st Class John Crawford of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa.<br /> <br /> An elderly female from Lakemont, who was driving a gold Ford Taurus, told troopers she had been to the Lakemont Post Office and was headed home. As she attempted to cross U.S. 441, she didn't see the northbound motorcycle, Crawford said.<br /> <br /> The blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the car in the right front fender.<br /> <br /> The motorcyclist suffered critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia, where Crawford said he is stable.<br /> <br /> The motorcycle is bearing a Kansas tag.<br /> <br /> Crawford said the woman complained of injuries and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.<br /> <br /> Despite heavy rain in the Lakemont area during the wreck investigation, Crawford said it was sunny at the time of the collision.<br /> <br /> Citations are pending at this point.
