FLOWERY BRANCH - At its meeting Thursday night, Flowery Branch City Council unanimously approved taking out a $1.5 from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to increase the capacity and phosphorous load of the city's water plant.

It's a 20 year loan at 1.4%, and the rest of the $2,295,225 total cost will be paid out of SPLOST VI and local funds.

"We're going to move the phosphorous load that's in Cinnamon Cove into our plant in order to expand the plant into a larger sewer plant," said City Manager Bill Andrew.

He said that in order for the city to stop the discharge from Cinnamon Cove into Lake Lanier, the city will have to move that water into its own plant.

"Once we combine our phosphorous loads, we'll be able to put more treated lake water into Lanier," said Andrew.

Construction on the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in January 2015, and should be completed by June 2017.
