Flowery Branch City Council approves $1.5 million loan for water/sewer plant

FLOWERY BRANCH - At its meeting Thursday night, Flowery Branch City Council unanimously approved taking out a $1.5 from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to increase the capacity and phosphorous load of the city's water plant.<br /> <br /> It's a 20 year loan at 1.4%, and the rest of the $2,295,225 total cost will be paid out of SPLOST VI and local funds.<br /> <br /> "We're going to move the phosphorous load that's in Cinnamon Cove into our plant in order to expand the plant into a larger sewer plant," said City Manager Bill Andrew.<br /> <br /> He said that in order for the city to stop the discharge from Cinnamon Cove into Lake Lanier, the city will have to move that water into its own plant.<br /> <br /> "Once we combine our phosphorous loads, we'll be able to put more treated lake water into Lanier," said Andrew.<br /> <br /> Construction on the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in January 2015, and should be completed by June 2017.
