ATLANTA - Don Grantham of Augusta was elected Chair of the State Transportation Board today, having served the past year in the role of Vice Chair. Emily Dunn of Blue Ridge was elected Vice Chair, and Robert L. Brown, Jr. of Decatur was elected to the position of Secretary.

The State Transportation Board is the policy-making and governing authority of the Georgia Department of Transportation and is comprised of fourteen members, each representing one of Georgia's Congressional Districts.

All were elected unanimously by their colleagues to one-year terms.

Grantham was re-elected to the Board earlier this year by the members of the Congressional District 12 Caucus. Dunn is serving her first five-year term on the Board, and Brown is currently in his second full term.

Grantham recognized the outstanding leadership of outgoing Chair Jay Shaw. "The Department of Transportation is in a better place today than it was several years ago, and that is due to the great leadership we have had on the Board and the dedicated employees of the Agency. I am excited to work with all my fellow Board members to be sure Georgia will continue to be the number one state in the country - for the best roads and the best DOT. We want to keep working with Governor Deal, the legislature and DOT staff to ensure that we keep moving forward."

"I am very pleased with the accomplishments of the Department, and look forward to working with Don and Robert to do even more over the next year," Dunn commented. "Georgia has great opportunities ahead of it, and we want to make sure our transportation system is ready."

Grantham, of District 12, is a business owner in Augusta; serves on the Boy Scouts of America Advisory Board of Augusta; and is a former Chair of the Georgia Ports Authority.

Dunn, of District 9, is also a business owner in Blue Ridge, and serves on the Fannin County Board of Education, the Fannin Regional Hospital Board of Trustees and North Georgia Technical College Board.

Brown, of District 4, is a registered architect, a business owner in Decatur, and serves on the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, Southern Polytechnic State University and Georgia Perimeter College Foundation Boards and the Agnes Scott College Board of Trustees.

The State Transportation Board determines policy and exercises general governance of Georgia's Department of Transportation. The Board's 14 members, representing each of the state's congressional districts, serve staggered, five-year terms. Board members are elected by those state senators and representatives whose legislative districts fall within all or part of the relevant congressional district.
