BUFORD -- These are the type of games that pave the road to Columbus.

The Buford softball team edged out a meeting of standouts on Tuesday, taking a 2-1 win over Cambridge in which Lady Wolves and Tennessee-bound pitcher Bria Bush out-dueled Cambridge's Keara Napoli -- thanks to a some big help from Jordan Deep.

Deep homered off the Georgia-bound Napoli in the first inning to set a new Buford career home run record. Her solo shot to right-center gave Deep 25 career blasts, breaking the record formerly held by current Tennessee standout Lexi Overstreet.

It was one of the few offensive highlights for either team on a night when two Division I pitchers went to head-to-head.

Cambridge tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Wolves (7-0) fired right back in the bottom of the inning -- thanks to patience at the plate.

Two walks and some fast running on the base paths from Remington Hasty loaded the bases with no outs. And while Hasty was eventually forced out at home for one out, Sydney Stavro ensured the win with yet another walk, bringing home Drew Puckett for the go-ahead run.

Bush (2-0) set down Cambridge 1-2-3 in the seventh to earn the win. The Buford pitcher allowed just three hits, while striking out four. Napoli, meanwhile, allowed four hits and struck out nine.

Senior Alexus Murray also hit safely for the Lady Wolves

Buford will take on Calhoun at Northwest Whitfield High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
