Piedmont chamber ensemble to perform Aug. 24

DEMOREST - A new chamber music ensemble, "Piedmont Camerata," will perform at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, in a free concert at the college chapel in Demorest.<br /> <br /> The chamber ensemble includes Heather Strachan, violin; Rachael Fischer, violin; Megan Chisom Peyton, viola; David Peyton, cello; and Jeri-Mae Astolfi, piano. They will perform works by 19th century composers Gabriel Fauré, Joaquín Turina, and Antonín Dvo&#345;ák.<br /> <br /> Astolfi is a Canadian-born pianist who is currently an artist in residence at Piedmont. Her performances have been featured in live radio broadcasts and released by Albany Records, innova recordings, and Ravello Records' Capstone Collection, including the Performers' Recording Series of the Society of Composers, Inc..<br /> <br /> Fischer is a native of Ringgold, Ga., and began studying the violin at the age of four. She currently maintains an active schedule as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, and educator. An avid chamber musician, Fischer has performed across the United States and in Europe.<br /> <br /> David Peyton is pursuing a Ph.D in Music Theory at the University of Georgia, while also performing professionally across the Southeast. He currently plays in the symphony orchestras of Augusta, Greenville, Toccoa, and Chattanooga. He was previously the principal cellist of both the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra and the ARCO Chamber Orchestra, with which he toured Italy in 2011.<br /> <br /> Megan Chisom Peyton, a native of Dallas, Texas, began studying the violin at the age of six in a public school Suzuki strings program. Currently a member of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, she has performed across the United States as a chamber and orchestral musician and also toured Italy with the ARCO Chamber Orchestra in 2011.<br /> <br /> An adjunct professor at Piedmont College, Heather Strachan is a former member of the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, Georgia Sinfonia, Macon Symphony Orchestra, and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. She performs in orchestras and chamber groups throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina and is concertmaster of the Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium.
