Woman jailed, $2M worth of opium seized in Barrow Co.

AUBURN - A woman remains jailed in Barrow County in connection with the seizure of more than 5,500 gram of opium.<br /> <br /> Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said that his office was notified earlier this month about a suspicious package being shipped from Laos to 301 Oak Ridge in Auburn. Investigators coordinated a "controlled delivery."<br /> <br /> "We had some undercover officers in the area watching the home," said Smith. "The postal delivery [service] actually delivered the mail on the street...delivered the package to the front door."<br /> <br /> The resident of the house, De Yang, a 38-year-old woman, accepted the package, according to Smith and then officers executed a search warrant. <br /> <br /> Smith said the opium was packaged in more than 200 individual packets; ;he estimated the street value of the drugs at more than $2.2 million.<br /> <br /> Yang remains jailed without bond in the incident.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The estimated street value of the opium was $2.2 million.<br /> <br />
More than 200 packages of opium were seized in an August 5 drug bust in Barrow County.
