Autopsy being performed on Demorest man who died in Yellowstone River

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK - Officials with Yellowstone National Park said Monday that an autopsy will be performed on the body of Darien Latty, 22, of Demorest, who was found dead over the weekend in the Yellowstone River.<br /> <br /> Al Nash, the Public Information Officer for Yellowstone National Park, said Latty's body was seen Friday submerged in the river and pinned against a rock. The remains were not recovered until Saturday.<br /> <br /> "We didn't have the capability to do the swift-water work that was necessary to remove Mr. Latty's remains," said Nash. "We had to call in some outside help."<br /> <br /> Nash said a swift-water team from Gallatin County, Montana navigated the river and dislodged Latty's body. A helicopter removed the remains from the scene.<br /> <br /> "The section of the Yellowstone River in the northern part of the park is fast-moving, very rocky, has a lot of rapids and some falls and in many places goes through very steep canyons," said Nash. <br /> <br /> Nash said Latty and two friends had actually entered the water Monday, August 11 on the Lamar River, which is much calmer than the Yellowstone River. The two friends were able to exit the river before the junction with the rougher water.<br /> <br /> Nash said park regulations prohibit floating the river.<br /> <br /> Latty, a 2010 graduate of Habersham Central High School, had been working for the summer months at Roosevelt Lodge in the park.<br />
