CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) An American missionary has been released from quarantine and has visited his wife, who is being treated for the deadly Ebola virus.

After David Writebol's quarantine was lifted Sunday, he says he headed to Atlanta, where his wife, Nancy, remains in isolation at Emory University Hospital.

He says he looked through the glass in the isolation room and spotted his wife on the other side. They both placed their hands on opposite sides of the glass and cried.

Writebol says his wife is continuing to gain strength.

Writebol had been quarantined at the SIM USA charity's campus south of Charlotte since he returned last week from Liberia.

The couple had been in Liberia for a year, working in a clinic. Nancy Writebol's duties included disinfecting staff entering or leaving the Ebola treatment area.
