Drunk drivers targeted in Ga. Labor Day crackdown

ATLANTA (AP) -- The Governor's Office of Highway Safety says it is planning a crackdown on DUI drivers during the Labor Day weekend travel period.<br /> <br /> Officials say law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be aggressively targeting DUI drivers during the holiday weekend.<br /> <br /> Governor's Office of Highway Safety officials say on average, one person died every 34 minutes during Labor Day weekend DUI crashes nationwide last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<br /> <br /> Officials say between Aug. 3 and Sept. 2 of 2012, there were nearly 3,497 crashes and 22 deaths in Georgia.<br /> <br /> Officials say the state's anti-drunk driving initiatives are expected to run from Aug. 15 to Sept. 1.<br /> <br />
