90-count indictment handed down in Alzheimer's care center case

COMMERCE - A Jackson County grand jury has indicted 18 people in connection with abuse at an Alzheimer's care facility in Commerce.<br /> <br /> The 90-count indictment against Donna Hanner Wright and 17 of her employees was handed down earlier in the week, according to a published report in the Athens-Banner Herald.<br /> <br /> Alzheimer's Care of Commerce was raided in July 2013. Since that time, investigators have been building a case against the 18 co-defendants. The counts range from simple battery for allegedly hitting patients and pouring water on them to false imprisonment for allegedly tying patients to chairs.<br /> <br /> Other charges include double diapering patients to avoid changing soiled diapers and failing to provide dental care. <br /> <br /> In addition, the indictments allege Wright hired convicted felons to care for the residents.<br /> <br /> <br />
