CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities have identified the 20-year-old gunman they say went on a violent rampage before killing himself Tuesday in northwest Georgia.
Bartow County Sheriff Clark Milsap tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://on-ajc.com/1oJrDWN ) that Austin Denzel Tyler arrived at a Cartersville home shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and began shooting. Three people were hit, and a man identified Wednesday as 64-year-old Royce Randal Hobgood died.
Police say Tyler drove less than four miles, crashed into a home, then shot and injured one man. The sheriff says Tyler then returned to his vehicle and drove a short distance before carjacking two people.
Milsap says deputies chased the stolen vehicle as it crashed twice. Police then found Tyler inside dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials have told Georgia news outlets that they believe the crimes were drug-related.
