CUMMING - A Forsyth County woman has been charged with cruelty to children in the second degree and reckless conduct after she left her infant child in her car at Walmart Wednesday.

Cumming Police spokesman Sgt. Bryan Zimbardi said Amber Sue Adams was arrested after officers responded to a call reporting the child in the car.

"We were told by [Forsyth County] dispatch center that they had EMS and Fire en route to Walmart because a citizen had called to complain there was a child locked in a vehicle," said Zimbardi.

Zimbardi said by the time Cumming Police arrived, the EMS team had already found the mother, Adams. They had opened the vehicle and were preparing the baby for transport to Scottish Rite.

"What the officers on scene reported was that her complexion was so flushed it looked like she was sunburned," Zimbardis said.

"We believe she was in the store for about 55 to 65 minutes before the call went through," Zimbardi said.

Zimbardi said the child had been released from the hospital that evening.
