CUMMING - The body of a 19-year-old who had been missing since early Tuesday surfaced Friday morning on a cove in Lake Lanier.

Deputy Doug Rainwater with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said the lead investigator in the case arrived at Two Mile Creek Park around 7:15 a.m. and found the body in the water.

"We retrieved the body around 8:15 from the lake and the body was identified as Cody Daniel Gibbs," said Rainwater.

Gibbs was part of a group of teens and young adults having a party after the park had closed Monday night. A deputy patrolling the area broke up the party just after 12 a.m. Tuesday, according to investigators, and the participants scattered, some of them jumping in the water.

Investigators believe underage alcohol consumption was part of the party, and that is what led the party-goers to flee the scene.

"This party was illegal...in terms of the park was closed, it was late at night," said Rainwater. "We will investigate who [organized] this party, if anybody, is responsible."

"We'll make sure something like this doesn't happen again."

Rainwater said Gibbs' body will be transported to the GBI Crime Lab for analysis.
